Coronary Heart Disease
If you’re like me, you might be aware that many people suffer from a few symptoms of coronary heart disease but do not notice them. Why is this? Because the real array of symptoms don’t come until 70% or more of your artery is blocked.

This is a problem because it means when you notice the symptoms of coronary heart disease you are already in the later stages of the condition.

What causes coronary heart disease (CHD)?

Atherosclerosis (the hardening of the arteries) is the cause of the vein and artery heart blockage which leads to CHD. This occurs when fat, cholesterol and other materials gather on the walls of our arteries and restrict blood flow.

Due to this restriction, oxygenated blood finds it harder to get to the heart and this reduction eventually leads to CHD and its symptoms. A lack of oxygen travelling to the heart due to atherosclerosis is actually called “cardiac ischemia.”

Coronary heart disease symptoms

The symptoms of CHD aren’t always the same and may vary. But there are some common points:

Angina – this is chest pains that come about when you exercise but alleviate when you rest or take a break. Most people feel the pain over their breast bone but it is non-specific so it could be anywhere.

Shortness of breath – this needs no explanation.

Irregular heartbeat – also called “cardiac arrhythmia. This might occur every so often.

Severe sweating – this needs no explanation.

You may also suffer from nausea, fatigue, weakness or breast pain if you are a woman. These are symptoms easily ignored until they come in groups.

If this happens you should definitely get it checked out by your physician.

Ways to defend yourself are exercising, eating less junk food and not smoking. You could even invest in an omega 3 fish oil supplement which have been proven by scientific research to engender heart health.

You should definitely do these things if you experience any of the symptoms of coronary heart disease.

Cardiovascular Issues

Can fish oil supplements really help with cardiovascular issues? Not so long ago this would have been very difficult to believe, but recent clinical and scientific research has proven that, yes, they can.

Omega 3 supplements have even been endorsed by reputable organisations to benefit heart health. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we need to understand some cardiovascular issues a little better.

Atherosclerosis and Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)

Atherosclerosis (or the hardening of the arteries) is the resulting effect of a build up of plaque on the walls of our arteries. This plaque is composed of fat, cholesterol, dead cells, calcium and fibrous tissue.

As the level of plaque rises, the flow of our blood through our artery is restricted. This builds pressure in our artery and heart as oxygenated blood isn’t able to travel to the heart.

Eventually, if there was a blood clot, this could result in a heart attack. However, a lack of proper blood flow could result in coronary heart disease.

By preventing this build up of plaque, we could prevent heart problems substantially.

The Link with Fish Oil

Fish oil has been proven to reduce the risks of cardiovascular problems. On top of good exercise, good dieting and a strict no smoking policy, you could really benefit your heart health.

1. Lower blood triglycerides

Triglycerides come into our body as fat that converts into cholesterol. This is massively negative for our body, but isn’t the only problem.

This cholesterol may travel down to our arteries and deposit itself in the artery walls, leading to atherosclerosis. Taking DHA rich fish supplements can reduce triglyceride levels, however.

2. Reduce Inflammation

Inflammation has been billed as a major contributor to heart-related problems. However, fish supplements have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and could therefore reduce the risks of cardiovascular issues substantially.

So there you have it, a guide to how fish oils can help with your cardiovascular problems. If this has piques your interest about fish oils, you should do more research to discover their relationship with your heart.

Learn About Angina Causes

Angina Causes

Did you know that angina is not a disease, but actually a symptom of heart disease? One of the symptoms angina causes is non-specific discomfort or pain the chest. This is due to a lack of oxygen travelling to the heart.

The heart may continue to pump blood around the body, but if the angina causes occur alongside any other symptoms, then it could easily result in a heart attack.

Symptoms

Angina is described different between people, but there is common ground despite these differences. First off, the pain isn’t usually “sharp” as such; it is instead quite a dull pain.

Secondly, many people report that the pain isn’t in one exact area but in fact spans over a majority of the chest. It is also usually somewhere around the breast bone.

However, pain can be felt all over the body — the neck, shoulders, back, jaw and arms. So it really is a difficult condition to pinpoint.

Other symptoms include a feeling similar to indigestion. In fact, these symptoms are so similar that many people are given over the counter medicine to deal with it because it is believed to be indigestion.

What causes angina

One of the major causes of angina is atherosclerosis, although there are many different ways of developing it. Atherosclerosis is when fat, dead cells, cholesterol and fibrous tissue gather on the walls of our arteries as plaque.

This reduces the proper blood flow to the heart and results in angina. This may not affect the heart right away but it can be the eventual cause of a heart attack.

How to prevent it

To prevent it you can stop smoking, exercise more, eat less junk food and use an omega 3 fish oil supplement. All of these can guard against angina causes like atherosclerosis.

Cardiovascular Atherosclerosis

This scared me to death: only 1 in 4 Americans are able to name the major symptoms of cardiovascular disease. It shocks me how many people spend money and effort on cosmetic health but little attention or time on internal health.

The problem is that it doesn’t matter what you look or feel like if you’re in the advanced stages of a cardiovascular issue. This is why ensuring proper blood flow in our veins and arteries is vital.

Cardiovascular Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is also referred to as the “hardening of the arteries.” Cardiovascular means “heart-related,” meaning that cardiovascular atherosclerosis means a heart conditions resulting from the hardening of our arteries.

This includes arteries that bring blood to the heart or those that take it from it. Because it is part of the body’s natural cycle, any artery that is clogged either going to or from the heart can lead to a serious heart issue (or even a heart attack.)

The disease we are discussing now is literally when our arteries become narrower and inflexible. Why? Because cholesterol has been allowed to build up on the walls of our arteries.

Excess cholesterol is deposited in our arteries and, along with calcium, dead cells and fibrous tissue, it accumulates and becomes “plaque.” As the size of this plaque grows our artery becomes more and more clogged and narrow, making blood flow difficult.

This can eventually lead to cardiovascular disease symptoms if over 70% of the artery is blocked. It may also lead to a blood clot and therefore a heart attack.

Cardiovascular Atherosclerosis Symptoms

Symptoms include chest pain, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, shortness of breath, sweating, swollen ankles and anxiety. If you notice these you should see your doctor immediately.

However, you can also take steps to reduce your cholesterol level. One doctor-recommended, proven way of doing this is to take an omega 3 fish oil supplement (as recommended by the American Heart Association.

How to Survive a Heart Attack

Heart Attack

Today more people are able to survive a heart attack compared to 20-25 years ago, thanks to the medical community raising awareness about the causes of a heart attack and how to prevent the causes of a heart attack. Licensed Medical Professionals that are faced with the emergency of a patient with a life threatening episode of a heart attack have been trained in an ACLS course, that instructs the health care provider in how to save lives with these algorithms that the American Heart Association endorses.

In order to survive a heart attack it is also important to recognize the symptoms. Keep in mind that the symptoms vary among individuals and differ in men and women. The heart vessels in women have been found to be smaller than the men. Therefore their symptoms may consist of pressure or may be described as “feels like an elephant is setting on top of my chest”. The ACLS course will elaborate on other symptoms that are most common such as jaw pain, chest pain that radiates down the left arm, pain in the middle of the back, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, at times the pain may be in both arms, and feeling like they can not breathe. Burning in the right and left arms may be described also.

It is also best to seek emergency help when experiencing any of the symptoms, even symptoms of indigestion that is severe. If you know you have high blood pressure, or high cholesterol these are other risk factors that indicate for you to seek medical care immediately. If you do not have any reason to not to an aspirin, such as any allergies or stomach ulcers, it is recommended to take one aspirin. The aspirin will help in thinning the blood, so that if there is a blockage in the vessels of the heart, the blood will be thin enough to pass through some of the blockage, saving the heart muscle from further damage. ACLS course is highly recommended to all health care professionals that provide direct care to patients that have a license, such as nurses, doctors, paramedics, etc.

Last but not least, keep follow up appointments with your primary care physician or cardiologist to have routine blood work that will identify any issues with coronary artery disease, such as cholesterol levels. Also if you are taking medications for cholesterol, liver tests have to be monitored periodically. Consider taking an ACLS course to increase the knowledge of providing emergency care to patients to enable them to have a viable outcome and a healthier outcome. A change in diet and exercise will help strengthen the heart muscle and help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels too. Choose a diet low in fat and bake or broil food when possible. Avoid red meats, liver, and place chicken and fish in the diet with lots of green leafy vegetable.
